Edmonton Intergroup AA Members Service Information
Edmonton Intergroup (EI) serves the local AA groups by coordinating public outreach in our area through the services supplied by Edmonton Central Office (ECO). We serve the primary purpose of AA by providing Helpline support and messaging the public through the Public Information / Cooperation with the Professional Community (PI/CPC) committee. ECO maintains an up-to-date and searchable website so that those who need help can find the AA program of recovery in the Edmonton Area online.
Intergroups commonly provide support to other AA area service committees like Archives, Communication Services, Corrections, Grapevine, Group Services, and Treatment & Accessibility (which includes their Bridging the Gap program). In Edmonton we also offer support to various Young People’s groups and related entities (ICYPAA, WACYPAA, etc.).
The Intergroup monthly meeting (held every 2nd Thursday at 7:pm) encourages liaisons from Districts 10, 12, 40, 46, 53, 55, 57, 60, 61 and 64 as well as other AA Edmonton Area service groups.
Participating groups support a full-service bookstore stocked with chips, literature from AA World Service and Grapevine materials for AA members and treatment centers that provide AA materials for their clients.
Without these services, many alcoholics may die without ever being introduced to Alcoholics Anonymous or getting the opportunity to live free from alcohol using the AA program of recovery.
Alcoholics Anonymous primary purpose is to help the still suffering alcoholic. The AA program of recovery is a way to live free from alcohol.
ECO Information
Service Area
High-level summary:
The Edmonton Central Office (ECO) is to be located in a central location in Edmonton. At present, the office is at 10544 114 Street, Suite#205, Edmonton, AB T5H 3J7. The office is located within the boundaries of the service area.
Officers are elected at the Annual General Membership (AGM) meeting in December and take office in January. In general, they serve for up to two years in any one position and then rotate out of that office. The “Intergroup Operating Procedures” document details precisely the length of term an officer may serve in any one position. It is expected the officer has been an active intergroup representative and has had experience on an intergroup committee.
There is a standing committee of ECO known as the “Central Office Board (COB)” consisting of six board members. The term of office is two (2) years, and a member may nominate them self to serve an additional two (2) years if they so choose. The entire board is presented to the ECO membership at each December AGM meeting, where board membership can be revoked by the voting members of the Intergroup Committee, as deemed necessary.
Five (5) years of continuous sobriety is suggested for all directors. Nominees should be carefully considered by the voting membership when considering the job responsibilities that the board shall need to fill.

How to Get Involved
Most AA members participate by going to meetings at their local groups. But there are many opportunities for service in AA, and most of us have found that volunteering to do service improves the quality of our recovery. We freely share our time and talent in an effort to stay sober and carry the message of Alcoholics Anonymous to those who are suffering from alcoholism. In other words, you get what you give.

Register as a Trusted Servant. Make sure your meeting trusted servants are registered with us. It is only with your help that we can maintain current information about meeting locations, times and special events.
Service Opportunities
Much of the service work performed in the Edmonton Area is done through service committees. These currently include 12 Step Calls, Archives, Communication Services, Corrections, Grapevine, Group Services, Policies & Procedures, Public Information / Cooperation with the Professional Community, and Treatment & Accessibility.
